Prof. Moudi Al-Humound, President of the Arab Open University (AOU), opened the workshop, which was held on the sidelines of the 57th University Council Meeting, in presence of Vice Presidents, Deans, Branch Directors, Quality Assurance Director, Admission and Registration Director, and Dr. Abbas Ahmad, a faculty member.
Al-Humoud welcomed all participants and expressed her congratulation to them for the new academic year, valuing their efforts in service of the university and the programs of sustainable development in the eight Arab countries, where the AOU is operating.
She also commended the efforts of all of Prof. Ahmad Majdouba, the former Dean of the Faculty of Language Studies, Dr. Abdin Al-Sharif, the former acting Director of the AOU Sudan Branch, and Dr. Abbas Abdulkareem, wishing them and the success in their new work. In addition, she wished Prof. Rasheed Madaoi all the luck and success on the occasion of his appointment as a director of the AOU Sudan Branch.
Al-Humoud stressed that the University is committed to holding such workshops to give the opportunity to all AOU senior management staff to participant in decision making and performance evaluation, in order to translate the noble vision and mission of the University into reality.
Then, the workshop started with Dr. Abbas Ahmad who presented a study on “Relevance of AOU Graduates and Programmes to Labour Market Needs”. He addressed many topics such as the relevance of the competences, which graduates acquired in their studying of AOU programs, to the needs of labor markets. He also addressed the university experience, education and skill development.
After that, Prof. Marwan Al-Akaidi, Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented a study, entitled “Study Comparison of Students Performance: Comprehensive Analysis Between two Academic Years (2014-15 and 2015-16)”. It aimed to examine the performance of all the programmes with respect to each semester and each level. In addition, one of its goals was to study aggregate analysis for all levels and extract consistency among branches, and to empirically examine the trend of progression between randomly selected modules for each level.
Then, the workshop was concluded by a case study presented by Prof. Ashraf Hussien, Acting Vice President for Education and Information Technology. It was entitled “Using Data Analytics in Tracking Students’ Performance at Arab Open University: A Case Study of the ITC Programme”. He talked about the academic performance of the ITC students across the eight branches of AOU and their capabilities and active roles, in addition to the efficiency of the AOU branches in administering the ITC programme.
