Prof. Mohammad Al-Zakari, President of Arab Open University (AOU) in the Arab world, congratulated, via a video call, the AOU students of the Computer Studies Faculty in Jeddah, Wedad Al-Qathmi, Nujoud Bint Mahfouz and Amira Al-Mashjari, for winning second place in Jeddah Award Hackathon & Ideathon, for their project “Smart Car Dashboard Application” which was presented within the track of Security Creativity for traffic applications.
Prof. Al-Zakari expressed his happiness with this achievement, saying “We congratulate our students for winning in Jeddah Award Hackathon & Ideathon, and we are proud of the always excellence of AOU students. These recurring achievements are not strange to them due to AOU’s high-quality and excellent academic programs and curricula in computer sciences and information technology that meet the needs of the time and the labor markets.
The idea of the "Smart Car Dashboards" application is to use smart car plates equipped with RFID Tag technology, which cars are monitored through RFID Reader technology instead of the cameras currently used, and to provide competent authorities with public traffic data to monitor traffic congestion and accidents. It could also use the technology of Blockchain for keeping car tracking records.
The application aims to achieve flexibility in monitoring and regulating traffic, in addition to facilitating the search for wanted and missing people and the possibility of using it in other areas such as smart parking and linking the service with ambulances to facilitate their traffic operations
.
The Jeddah Creativity Hackathon encourages individuals to participate in creative fields, in cooperation with the University of Jeddah and a number of universities and colleges within two tracks, the programming and ideas race across three fields; These are security creativity for traffic applications, government creativity for smart building applications, and societal creativity for tourism applications. The events also included a panel discussion for experts in these fields.
AOU is a non-profit university launched at the initiative of HRH the late Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in 1996 as a non-traditional educational entity that contributes to steering development in scientific fields. AOU has become a reality when launched in 2002 in cooperation with Open University- UK.
