Ever since its foundation, the Arab Open University has established a partnership with the UKOU and as such follows the Quality Assurance code of practice that is developed by the UK-based Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).The code of practice for the assurance of academic quality and standards is a means with which the AOU assesses its performance.
Quality Assurance as defined by the QAA is a way of describing all systems, resources and information that universities and higher education colleges use to maintain and improve standards and quality. This includes quality in teaching and student learning, research, administrative and financial schemes.
To ensure a quality enriched learning experience for students and faculty, the Arab Open University through its quality assurance department monitors and evaluates its procedures and practices, and the services that it provides for students.
In the view of the increasing importance of quality in Higher Education and the important role assigned to quality assurance towards achieving the Arab Open University’s mission, a Quality Assurance Center of Excellence was set up in Lebanon branch in 2008 comprising QA committee members. The role of the committee is to produce and develop new procedures and practices that are coherent with high quality standards and are in fact aimed at enhancing AOU productivity, refining and improving already established practices and procedures. This in essence is done to improve the quality of the University services and to enable AOU to compete and succeed in the field of Higher Education.
