The Faculty of Education was established with the launch of the Arab Open University in 2002. It currently offers programmes at various levels, each aimed at helping students acquire teaching competencies and research skills. The language of instruction and study is Arabic.
The faculty offered two programmes within the first two years starting in October 2002: a postgraduate diploma and a supplementary bachelor's degree in education. Since October 2004, the faculty has offered a bachelor's degree in elementary education and another bachelor's degree in special education. The faculty also offered two master's programmes in 2011 and 2014: one in instructional technology and another in educational leadership. A bachelor's degree in Career Empowerment for Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Students in 2016, a professional diploma in kindergarten in 2017, and a professional diploma for preparing and qualifying teachers in emergencies in 2021. Recently, in 2024, the faculty of Education offered a bachelor's degree in childhood and education, Bachelor of Arts and Education—English language specialisation, and a teaching diploma.
In 2014, the master's programme in Instructional Technology was validated by the Centre for Inclusion and Collaborative Partnerships of the Open University, UK. Graduates of this programme are offered two degrees: one from the Arab Open University and another from the Open University, UK. This MEd Instructional Technology programme was revalidated for a full-term period of five years with effect from the intake of students from September 2024. The duration of the programme is 2 Years FT/ 4 Years PT.
